Honors-in-Major Program Requirements

Students are required to maintain an overall grade-point average of 3.20 in courses completed at the University of New Hampshire and a 3.20 in all Nutritional Sciences coursework.

Students must successfully complete 16 credits of Nutritional Sciences courses with Honors, including NUTR 799 Senior Honors Thesis (see below). Most courses can be designated as Honors courses, with the consent of the course instructor, and approval of the Department's Honors Progam Coordinator.

At least one of the courses must be:

Instructors shall retain flexibility in implementing additional assignments that elevate the course's educational content to justify Honors designation, which will likely involve activities such as extra reading or writing assignments, laboratory or field experiences, or classroom presentations.

At least 5 credits, but not more than 8 credits, of the 16 credits in Nutrition Sciences Honors courses must be as Senior Honors Thesis (NUTR 799). In order to enroll in NUTR 799, a persmission slip must be obtained from the deparment's Honors Program Co-Coordinator (Barry Corriveau). Thesis work must encompass two consecutive semesters of 1-4 credits each semester. The student must identify a faculty mentor to supervise thesis work, which will involve investigation of some aspect of Nutritional Sciences that considers and applies the student's classroom education and potential career opportunities. A written thesis and public presentation of the thesis work are typically expected for successful completion of this requirement.
